TRAVEL: Put Your Tulips Next to Mine by Betty Van Volkenburg Spring is finally here! I'm definitely ready to get out of town, so I’m going home for the Tulip Festival in Ottawa., Canada, and I'm inviting you to join me. We'll carpool up for the weekend, leaving Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning (very early). A small contingent of singles from my singles ministry, SAM’s Lambs, will be checking in to my favourite place to stay - Gasthaus Switzerland, which is within walking distance of Parliament Hill, Byward Market an outdoor market, and other famous sights and national monuments. It's not the usual Cookie Cutter Hotel. The owners are very friendly - 1 is Swiss and 1 is Austrian, and their breakfast baking and home made espresso reflects that. The building, a former convent, was converted into an Inn and it is very quaint, comfortable and homelike. In fact it was so homey with delicious home made breakfast goodies, that it was hard to break away from breakfast to go out and do our tourist duty the last time I was there with another singles group. The Canadian Tulip Festival puts other festivals to shame. There are more tulips on one street than there are in the whole of some city parks elsewhere. There are flowers, and festivities everywhere, and nobody parties better than Canadians, eh? It's only about 4-1/2 to 5 hours drive from Rochester NY where we live, so we’ll carpool and do a long weekend there. The currency exchange is still pretty good on US money so we’ll get beautiful accommodations for less than a $100 per night (which includes a great breakfast). The GastHaus Switzerland has limited space as they are a Bed & Breakfast, but the Westin Hotel is right nearby and it is absolutely gorgeous, if we can't get enough rooms at the GastHaus.
