Features: Singles Can Help Change the Face of Politics
This may be the perfect time for singles to get involved in politics. We're between elections but that doesn't mean the political party or cause of your choice doesn't need help. But it does mean there may not be as many volunteers around so you'll have even more choices in what you do.
Our next
national election is approaching but just because
most of us aren't paying attention to politics right now doesn't mean
politicians aren't paying attention to us. Candidates already appear in places where the first primaries will be held.

From Our Publisher: How Do You Find
Happiness As A Single? The Same Way You Eat An
Elephant – One Bite At A Time! By Betty Van Volkenburg, Publisher In a fit of organizational energy a few days
ago, I browsed through some old copies of the print version of this
publication from September 1993. I came across a column I had done with the
title shown above. Reading my thoughts from so long ago seemed a little
eerie at first, but then I realized my views have not changed a great deal,
in fact they have been re-affirmed by events since then. Read more
Astrology: CANCER: The
Crab
June 22- July 22 (approximately)
There’s a myth about astrology: that your
sun sign is all-inclusive of your personality. Not true. No one is just
one sign. In fact, we all have many signs in our horoscope; this is the
key to our individuality. It’s the combination and placement of signs, and
the planets and houses, that makes us all different. Only your own
personal birth chart will tell you what your specific personality traits
are. What follows is a general description of the sun sign Cancer. For the
most part, it should very accurately describe Cancers who are part of your
life-or you, if you share the sign of the crab.
Cancer is a water sign, which indicates sensitivity. Cancer is ruled by the
moon, which in turn rules (among other things) the female principle;
mothers, wives, and women in general; instincts; moods; tides; phases;
feeling; and habit patterns. The Man, The Woman,

Humor/Humour: The Athletes Complete
Guide to Peak Procrastination
Men’s Health magazine
has reported that only one out of three men would
go see a doctor if they thought or felt something to be Seriously wrong with
their bodies, such as extreme ongoing chest pain, or a large lump that seemed to
be growing and changing shape quickly. This contrasted in that three out of five
women would seek medical attention immediately! Is this increased percentage
proof that women are more sensible than men are? Well, it may be. But that
question is beyond the scope of this article.

Careers & Education: A HerStory of Last Centurys Career Changes
The change in the role of men in
this country during the last half of the last century has allowed for the emergence of a womens movement and led to the rapid
growth of single, non-married persons in this country. In her immense chronicle on the
malaise of the male condition, "Stiffed," Susan Faludi charts the
trajectory of change in the concept of manhood. World War II is seen as the last
successful venture of American men to uphold the concept of virility through
active combat in a popular war.

Health: Sunscreen Essentials for Singles
Spring is finally here with a vengeance -- at least in Iowa. And like most sedentary singles, I want to spend my summer months enjoying the great outdoors -- biking, hiking and swimming.
But later on in life, we singles are not remotely interested in paying for all the sunshine we’ve soaked up by getting skin cancer. That means figuring out sun screen -- and using it faithfully, right?
Maybe not.It turns out that a
review of 10 studies of sunscreen use and cancer a few years ago indicated no
link between a use of sunscreen and a reduced rate of melanoma. In fact, five
studies even showed a higher rate of melanoma among sunscreen users.

striking a responsive chord with readers across the nation. The book, "This

Travel:
Western India
A trip to India is an all-out assault on the senses. You will be traveling through heat and dust, sharing the roads and sidewalks with sputtering motorcycles, honking auto-rickshaws, trucks, zig-zagging bicycles, ox-carts, beggars and even an occasional cow! It seemed to me that pedestrians took their life in their hands as I saw them weaving in and out of the traffic. You will experience hot
weather, severe poverty (children even chase taxis and stick their hands into open car windows!), as well as unexpected delays or schedule changes. You will learn to be patient, tolerant and flexible, even though English is widely spoken throughout most of India.

Religion & Spirituality: The Rev
Says...
Mirror, Mirror, On My Wall
by Reverend Lance Robbins Remembering back to my daughter's pre-teen years, I
recall reading to her the story of Snow White.
Let me remind you of that story and explain why I believe it has a
message for us today. Day after day, Snow White's evil stepmother stopped
before her magic mirror and asked, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the
fairest of them all?" Every morning the mirror concurred that she was the
most beautiful in the kingdom.
Then one fateful day, the stepmother got a terrible surprise. The mirror
replied that Snow White now had become the most beautiful in the land. The
evil stepmother had become second best. Read More
Relationships: The
Truth about Gossip
Gossip, we have magazines for it
(PEOPLE), papers dedicated to it (The Enquirer) and TV
shows saturated with it (Entertainment Tonight, Hard
Copy, Inside Edition). There are plenty of folks who make
a living at gossip: buying it, selling it, photographing
it. So when is enough enough? When does news stop being
news and end up evolving into a rumor large enough to
swallow and digest the lives that evolve around it?

Sports
& Fitness: FORE! PLAY It's
the mantra of the single woman: "Where can I go to meet men?" Or, more accurately, "Where can I go to meet men that isn't a dimly-lit basement with overpriced drinks, sticky floors, and drunken hairy-chested louts stumbling over to me and asking me my sign?" Well, Ladies, the one-word answer is based more on logic and personal observation than on any in-depth research
or intense investigation: Golf.
Yes golf, that silly game where you hit a little white ball with a stick and
then go chasing after it and then hit it again.

Science & Technology: Making Sure Cell Phones Work
In An Emergency
(NAPSI)-According to a recent survey, 83 percent of cell phone owners cite
“use in an emergency” as the top reason they have a cell phone. Meanwhile, 66
percent list “personal safety” as a primary reason for having one.
Yet these responses aren’t just the result of consumers being overly cautious;
the survey also found that 74 percent of cell phone owners actually have used
their phone in an emergency situation. Of those who have done so, 85 percent
have used their phone when they’ve had car trouble or to call in an accident,
44 percent during a power outage and 11 percent for natural disasters.
Whatever the reason for the call, however, a cell phone is only useful when
and where there’s a signal--preferably a strong one.
