HUMOR ME:
HER Dating
Game Plan by Lizanne Zamites Well, my esteemed colleague with HIS Dating Game Plan, seems to think that the only place that decent women go to meet a man is a singles dance. His headline suggests that his thinking has a tinge of tunnel vision. This is a new millennium and guess what – women don’t only go to singles dances to meet people. Grooming is definitely the way to start out, but isn’t that just common sense? Here is my rendition of where to find the boys – with the expensive toys. MENU SELECTIONS There is a smorgasbord of selections of where to find men. Since life is like a giant restaurant full of appetizers, main courses, and desserts, and food is something we all understand, I thought it would be fun to break it down in terms we all have in common. APPETIZERS Friends: Let them know you’re available! They may know someone who has similar interests. And things are much more comfortable in a group situation rather than a blind date. Grocery Shopping: Made famous by Fonzie in the ‘Happy Days’ sitcom, this could prove to be interesting. Find the most populated area, or the neighborhood you like best, where singles live and take a trip to shop there. You never know who you’ll bump into. Travel Brochures: In some magazines, they list a travel page where you can send away for free information of state and city events. Again, you never know what could be over the mountain. Radio Station Contests: Many stations offer promotions for ‘office of the day’, or concert tickets. If you win a free lunch, maybe you’ll finally get to meet that cute guy from the warehouse. Car Shopping: Just for the fun of it – try browsing for a new car. Dress really well, and go just after work – trust me, they’ll come running. Great boost for the old ego. Bars: It’s not always true, you don’t meet a nice guy there. I have three girlfriends who met their husbands in a bar, and they’ve all been married ten years or longer. Best place to hand out is by the door, by a security guard, or the prime location – the cigarette machine next to the men’s room. MAIN COURSE Travel Agencies: Travel agencies often specialize in single oriented vacation. Check into a year ahead of time, so you can save enough money to really enjoy your trip, wherever it may be. Sports Bars: Many women know a great deal about sports nowadays. You see, it’s called having something in common. Yes, it is predominantly male, especially during the night game broadcasts, but isn’t that what we’re looking for? Sport Trips/Junkets: Taking the sports bar to the next level, these trips are a lot of fun, and you find a different level of fans than at the bars. Some companies even go as far as organizing trips to nearby sports events (not limited to football either). And you never know who may be on that bus. Volunteer Agencies: There are some men who actually have time on their hands, and actually do good things. Check out the United Way Agency in your area, or check with singles groups to see what suits your interest, and go from there. Communication is a key part of any relationship, and to have something in common to talk about is a great ice breaker. Car Shows: "The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys". Here they go to drool and dream. Odds are usually 5-1, men to women. And in addition to hot cars, you may find hot men as well. They just love to amaze you with their extensive knowledge of what makes it go, and for once, this is one time where it can be fun to be quiet. DESSERTS Bachelor Auctions: So what if you have to pay for this date, you bought him, so he has to go out with you, right? And who knows, something good could come out of this. Tuxedo Shop: Get a part time job in a tux shop from October through January, or March through July. These are prime wedding seasons, and not only does the groom have to get a tux, so does the wedding party, which usually consists of at least two single guys. Hardware Store or Home Improvement Store: You may not find ‘Tim the Tool Man Taylor" but you may find Al among the aisles. And isn’t he really the guy you want to bring home to Mom? Going Back to College: Take a carpentry class. You may meet a man, but if not, you’ll be able to build a mean wall unit. Another City: Take an overnight to a nearby city. No one knows you there, and it can be fun and mysterious, and you never know who you’ll meet. Men’s Place: Back in the 70’s the Playboy Empire sprouted Playboy Clubs around the world. Slowly, they opened their doors to women, and catered to entertainment. Some restaurant chains have done similar marketing gimmick. So go there, and have a salad. Again - you never know…. (Let’s hope the servers are as courteous to women patrons as they are to men) This is only the tip of the vast singles world out there. The only thing that evolved is the dress code – it is definitely more casual. But you can still be sexy and casual. The more sensual you feel inside, the more that glow will come through. So, get glowing –and go find those men with the more expensive toys. |
